Baby Treasure Baskets: A Lovely Idea for Quiet Independent Play

I stumbled upon this a while back when I was looking for a basket online and I just wanted to share it. It’s called a Heuristic Play Basket. You can easily and cheaply make it. It entertains your baby and helps them to develop their sense of touch and fine motor skills.

The idea behind it is explained here on the Little Acorns Mighty Oaks site. The site also lists ideas for what to put in your basket.

Here is the one I made:

T loves it and will happily play with it for a good ten minutes before he tires of it. I am planning to make a very simple cover for it out of a rectangle of fabric that I will tie to the handles – so that the objects can be revealed – think this will make it a bit more special.  I also plan to add to it as the months go on.  I’d love to see photos of anyone else’s baskets or ideas for things to put inside.
